Lisfranc injury

Discussion

The Lisfranc ligament, which extends obliquely between the lateral aspect of the first (medial) cuneiform (C1) to the medial aspect of the second metatarsal (M2) base, is of paramount importance to the stabilization of the tarsometatarsal joints. Complications of Lisfranc ligament injuries can be devastating and may include malreduction resulting in posttraumatic osteoarthrosis and chronic foot pain.

Findings
1. absence of the dorsal C1-M2 ligament
2. C1-M2 interval of 2.5 mm or more
3. progressive widening on a dynamic sonographic evaluation
