Courtesy : YEON HEE OH, MD., DONGGUK UNIVERSITY GYEONGJU HOSPITAL Diagnosis: fat necrosis
Discussion
Findings: - In lateral side of the left elbow, a small mass lesion noted in subcutaneous layer. Coronal, axial and sagittal T1&T2WI show a lesion has central high SI and low SI rim. - Coronal and axial fat-suppressed T1-Fatsat enhanced images show lesion is hypointense with irregular rim enhancement.
Diagnosis: fat necrosis
Discussion: - It may be easier to diagnose superficial fat necrosis using imaging than fat necrosis in nonsuperficial sites and avoid biopsy for several reasons. First, the location of the lesion is subcutaneous . Second, the location tends to appear as a globular or laminated mass with a central fatty intensity and a hypointense rim.
