Diagnosis: Stress fracture of Rt. Femur, proximal shaft
Discussion
Findings:
Plain
radiography shows radioluscent oblique line with cortical thickening due to
benign looking continuous periosteal reaction at right proximal femur shaft,
anteromedial cortex.
T2-weighted
MR image shows dark SI oblique line at anteromedial cortex of right proximal
femur shaft combined severe bone marrow edema, but adjacent soft tissue
reactive change is not prominent and no significant abnormal fluid collection
is noted. Gadolinium enhanced MR image shows enhancing periosteal reaction and
cortical thickening.
Differential Diagnosis:
Osteomyelitis
Diagnosis:
Stress fracture
Discussion:
The patient
was a cheerleader at university. The hip pain occurred after cheerleading
practice. Four months follow-up plain radiography shows the stress fracture
site was healed through smooth continuous periosteal reaction and callus
formation.
