Disease definition
Renal osteodystrophy is currently defined as an alteration of bone morphology in patients with chronic kidney disease. It is one measure of the skeletal component of the systemic disorder of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD).


Findings
Lateral radiograph and coronal CT scan of the lumbar spine show alternating bands of sclerosis along the endplates and areas of lucency centrally.
This pattern is known as “rugger jersey spine”, a finding named for the pattern of the jerseys worn by rugby players
