Pain and tenderness of lateral side of hindfoot, between ankle and heel (Sinus tarsi)

one single or a series of ankle sprains injuries to talocalcaneal interosseous and cervical ligaments instability of subtalar joint, synovitis and scar tissue formation in sinus tarsi.

MRI

Best test to detect changes of inflammation, scar tissue formation or ligamentous injuries in the tissues of sinus tarsi.

Replacement of T1-hyperintense fat in the sinus tarsi space by either fluid or scar tissue

Disrupted ligaments, ganglion cysts in sinus tarsi

Treatment

usually conservative treatment

Anti-inflammatory drugs, stable shoes, a period of immobilization, cryotherapy

Surgical excision; ganglion cyts in sinus tarsi
